About us

International Disco Day™ (IDD) is a global initiative dedicated to celebrating and preserving the cultural, social, and historical impact of disco music. Disco music is more than a genre; it is a cultural movement that has historically served as a platform for self-expression, diversity, and community. Through education, music, and events, IDD seeks to highlight disco’s enduring legacy and its power to unite people across the globe.
Celebrate disco culture
Why IDD Matters
In the 1970s, disco revolutionized the cultural landscape, offering marginalized communities – including LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and women – a platform for self-expression and solidarity. However, the infamous “Disco Demolition Night” of July 12, 1979, revealed deep societal resistance to disco’s inclusive values. This destructive event sought to silence a movement that celebrated progress and unity, and it ultimately helped establish the foundation for International Disco Day™ as a response to reclaim disco’s inclusive values.
IDD transforms this narrative history of destruction into a story of resilience and celebration, reclaiming disco as a beacon of courage and resilience. By spotlighting this pivotal moment in cultural history, IDD reminds the world of the importance of protecting and promoting inclusive cultural movements as well as promotes a global dialogue on inclusivity and equality.
Today, International Disco Day™ stands not only as a celebration of music and joy, but as a powerful cultural reminder: movements that uplift, unify, and empower must never be silenced. As we dance forward, we honor the past, amplify present voices, and shape a more inclusive future—one beat at a time.

Shaping the future
Our Vision
Through initiatives like building music academies, providing educational resources, and hosting community events, IDD seeks to:
- Foster global inclusivity and diversity through music and dance
- Promote cultural preservation and creativity
- Build music academies in underserved communities
- Empower individuals by offering education and artistic opportunities
- Unite people across borders through the joy of music and dance
- Partner with global organizations and companies to promote music doctrine and cultural preservation as a means of addressing inequality
Together, we’re not just celebrating a genre—we’re shaping a future where rhythm, knowledge, and creativity uplift entire communities. Because the true legacy of disco isn’t just sound—it’s solidarity.
Beyond the music
Our Mission
Disco was never just about the beat—it was a cultural force that transcended music and reshaped how people saw themselves and each other. At its core, disco championed freedom of expression, inclusion, and the celebration of individuality across lines of race, gender, and sexuality. It offered a space where everyone could belong.
International Disco Day (IDD) exists to carry this legacy forward. Our mission is to honor the original spirit of disco by creating opportunities for cultural expression, artistic education, and musical exchange across borders. We strive to build platforms where creativity thrives and communities come together—both on and off the dancefloor.
By actively supporting music programs and educational initiatives in underserved regions, we aim to amplify voices that have historically been left out. Through these efforts, IDD ensures that the empowering energy of disco continues to inspire new generations—not just as a sound, but as a global movement rooted in unity, joy, and human connection.
